Core basics first.
For the most successful results when training the core follow these principles.
1. Establish initial body alignment. For example when preparing to do a standing exercise keep the shoulders level, the head balanced (not forward), the hips aligned over the ankles and the eyes focused forward, not down.
2. Stabilize the upper and lower body. Find your neutral position or neutral spine and retraction of the scapular area to keep the entire core region stable.
3. Focus on quality, not quantity. This means perform each exercise with a controlled speed of movement, taking time through each repetition.
4. Be aware. Concentrate on movements and reinforce postural cues like draw the abdominal muscles slightly inward.
Follow these simple principles for a more effective core workout.
